Squadron Christmas Party

The craziness (that I LOVE so much) of December is now in full swing. Last night was Philip's squadron Christmas party. We had a fun time. Philip had been asked to "entertain" two DG (distinguished guests) - 2 RAF (Royal Air Force - Britian's Air Force) veterans from WW2. We had met these gentlemen at Dining Out this summer. We had a wonderful time soaking in their stories. The other couple at our table was a British couple who was a delight to converse with. We talked about our cross cultural experiences and stories. We are really going to miss Lt. Col. Whatley and his wife, April, when they PCS (permanent change of station --- MOVE) this summer. Philip couldn't asked for a better first boss and I couldn't have asked for a more excellent example or picture of what an officer's wife should look like.

This morning Philip and I went into the gym. We're going to decompress for a bit and then do some cleaning. Tomorrow after church I have been asked to meet with a friend of a friend who is having some significant food struggles, so I'm praying that interaction goes well.
Last night my parents were in IA for Josh's Christmas concert. I so wish that I could have been there. Josh has a music scholarship, so he has been pretty involved in a mixed chorale, private lessons and was asked to join a chamber choir. I was so proud of him. He actually had a solo last night and was going to surprise mom and dad and not tell them in advance. I'll be excited to get a report on the evening this weekend. . .
Finally, I AM SO FRUSTRATED with how long it takes to get mail to an APO address overseas. My pictures to send with Christmas letters were supposed to be here by the 8th and are still who knows where. . . Being the obsessive person I am it is really bothering me that I haven't been able to get them out yet. Gurr. . . I seriously was so worked up this morning I had to step back and remind myself "okay, God is soverign over the USPS - He'll get them to you. . ." Philip says "He'll get them to you when you've grown from not having them" to which I say "I'VE GROWN ENOUGH I NEED THE PICTURES!"

Now I do not want to minimize the frustration of waiting for mail that has to traverse from country to country, but I'm trying to visualize the exchange between frustrated wife and the husband who is trying to put life into perspective. I must say: "good one, Philip." Seriously, I do believe God has us wait sometimes so that we grow or learn or become what He is trying to accomplish in our lives. Speaking for myself, I don't always appreciate the "wait."
Love to you both, Mom
