D-Day

We were grateful for the INCREDIBLE opportunity to go with some friends from the Special Ops Group to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the Allied landing at Normandy. Some of the guys from the unit participated in an air assault drop over the weekend. Matt & Jana camped with the unit at Utah Beach. Philip and I stayed in Cherbourg.
We took the ferry from England to Cherbourg France on Wednesday the 3rd. The SOG had a history professor taking the military members and their family members on a guided tour (he was actually teaching a class for some of the airmen. . . we prettymuch got to audit the coolest history class ever)

It was an incredible experience. I will never forget it. I can't imagine what it would have been like to try to traverse huge, mine-covered beach that morning while being soaking wet, carrying 60 + pounds of kit, under rapid German gun fire. I have all of the pictures and more detailed info posted on facebook, but here are some of the pictoral highlights. . .

Thanks for including the pictures. Was that a picture of someone paying special homage to someone known to him? Philip's great grandfather Westby was in France after the invasion but I don't think the Robinson side had any active servicemen in WW II.
