four {love} birds w/ one stone

photo challenge picture - it's been a hectic day, so I was pleased to realize that I have one photo of four of my favorite family members.  how cool is this?  it is my mom and dad with Philip's parents AT THEIR WEDDING!  How hilarious.  I'm not sure what is more comedic - thinking of things Paul might be saying or my dad's ROCKING powder blue suit. . .

Our household goods came today (sound the Hallelujah Chorus).  I had class when the were being unloaded (Philip reminded me this was now the third time he's dealt with movers in a row. . . to defend myself and not feel too guilty I reminded him that I've already set up two houses while he was gone --- much more painful than telling movers what rooms to place boxes in ;)  Won't lie - walked through the door and was overwhelmed - but the site of a house as soon of the movers leave does usually place me on the verge of a panic attack.  My only real concern is that we have NO room for our living room furniture due to the kind of weird configuration of that "section" of the house (it's not a room per say because the open concept kitchen dining and living area are seperated by a 7 foot wall w/ a built in fireplace --- it's cool but is making for really awkward room spacing).  As soon as the living room furniture plan is sorted, I'll feel more at ease.  Although I know I was ABSOLUTELY MAD to invite all of my classmates over for a Christmas/Hannukah/End of Semester shindig on Dec SIXTEENTH.  I've got two and a half weeks people!!!  Settling in and fully setting up the house usually takes a military family about 6 months. . .  this could be interesting.  I think it'll be good motivation to just get stuff sorted out.  If we can come up with a living room solution, I should have no problem attacking the place one room at a time for the next couple of weeks.

I have realized, though, that this is the first time since Boulder that we don't have a garage.  In my mind I was thinking our spacious guest bedroom closet could kind of serve that function (you know, for all of the stuff you don't use often but can't get rid of. . . for your bike for instance. . .) but then Philip reminded me he needs it for his uniform room.  Hmm.. . this will be a bit of a challenge.  This is by far my favorite place we've lived so far but will without a doubt be the most difficult to settle into. . .

I kind of feel like I should give a warning before showing this picture. . . kind of like they do in movies where there will be rapidly flashing lights for people who are prone to seizures. . . if you don't deal well with household disorganization (think tlc's "Hoarders") you may want to avert your eyes in order to avoid a spell of dizziness, shortness of breath and heart palpitations. . .

I am now being summoned for a family budget meeting.  Apparently the government is starting to get our paycheck straigthened out (they've owed us thousands of dollars for quite some time now b/c they jacked up the paying us correctly starting during the deployment. . . now if it was the other way around I bet there would have actually been a sense of urgency in the matter on their part. . .  yes, let's give the government more control - that's a great idea. . . until it's YOUR bank account that is short thanks to red tape and incompetent beaurocrats! arugh. . .   *stepping off of my soapbox.*)

Soooo, at the family budget meeting did ya'll decide to buy a garage? I know - not funny. Wish I could help unpack....or something. Hoping you can come up with a good arrangement for everything.

You will get used to making things work in different houses. We gained 600 sq. feet moving from England to ABQ, but our furniture fit better in our small house! We gained space in the laundry & bathrooms, plus an extra room (office), but lost space in our living room. Also, my kitchen here frustrates me more than the one in England. And today, when the piano teacher was here for 3 hours, I missed my 'lounge' that I could completely shut off during piano lessons. This open plan means we are all traipsing through the piano lesson!
OH and LOVE your dad's powder blue suit. I haven't met your mom, but Philip's 'mum' has hardly changed!
