carrot con artist

Those of you who know Philip fairly well know that as a general rule he has a pretty strong aversion to most things that are healthy. Carrots are no exception. Today I put a roast, potatoes, beans and carrots in the crock pot.

We had gone to Bury St. Edmunds for a coffee study date today, so it had all afternoon to simmer. When I got home, I baked two batches of bread (one for Philip's lunches this week and one for a tea ring that I'm giving to some friends as a thankyou gift tomorrow). By the time we sat down to eat, I was still having to get up and down to babysit the bread dough. I had put roast, potatoes, beans and ONE carrot (just so I could feel a bit better about myself) on Philip's plate. All I was asking that he have one little piece of carrot. . .

WELL. . . it turns out that in one of my trips away from dinner to tend to the bread dough, he snuck the bit of carrot he had onto my plate. He realized that mine were cut differently than his so he even went through the work of cutting his into pieces to mix in and disguise with mine. When I finished my last bite he was stifling laughter and finally blurted out, "how did you like my carrrot?" You'd think I'd be more careful about these mealtime antics considering where I work and what I have to do Monday - Friday. . . Just when I thought I knew all the tricks. . .

I'm glad that I'M the one who will carry and feed our children for their nine months of development. God knew that Philip could not properly nourish a child. He struggles to eat enough vitamins and minerals for one person, muchless two :)

I'm laughing, laughing after reading this. I don't know if I'm laughing more about Philip or Joy. I'm trying to picture the clandestine operation of quickly cutting the carrot to match!!! Then I'm trying to imagine Joy's expression when she realizes she's "been had." What a pair you are!!! The two of you put together eat a pretty good diet - two parts make a whole - good thing you got together and got married :)
