turning 13

Joy & Birthday Girl Emily
(if she was 5 years older I'd maybe have to arrange her marriage to my brother. . .)
I'm a week behind in blogging. I have a feeling that the next 4 months are going to be as unsatisfactory about updating as the last four have as school is only going to get crazier. . . hang in there with me. When Philip leaves in a few months, I'll be blogging more than once a day I'll be so bored and needing people connection :)

I LOVE THESE KIDS!

Last weekend I had an awesome opportunity to hang out with some of our friends. The Gidlows have five beautiful children who I ADORE. I love hanging out with Tammi and the kids when I have a day off and Philip is gone. Tammi has become a great friend, and it's just really a blessing spending time at their house (theraputic in fact). Our Friday night small group is held at Gidlows' house. Right now Tammi's husband, Dave is a deployed helicpoter pilot. Five kids is a lot to handle with a husband in the house (though the thought of it makes me feel like taking a nap - seriously!) It's REALLY challenging to manage five children on your own. I respect all of these women who do it so gracefully for such long periods of time.

The eldest Gidlow, Emily, turned 13 on Monday, so last Saturday Tammi threw a party and I got to help her. I felt so bad because Tammi and three of the five kids were sick (just what you want when you are reponsible for entertaing people on your own!). I got to go over and help get things ready. I can't imagine what it is like for these kids having to celebrate birthdays and holidays knowing Dad is so far away, in a really not-so-great place. Even though it was sans her amazing, loving dad, it is my prayer that this beautiful young woman, Miss Emily Gidlow, enjoyed the day that marks the beginning of an exciting journey. The coming years will be full of change and growth. I am excited to watch them unfold. She is so much help to her mom and her siblings - she deserved a very special day.

awwww, such sweet (and undeserved) words. You are such a "JOY" to have in our lives. I'm so thankful that my 13 year old daughter has such a godly young woman to look up to (and she does...look up to you).

I'll be missing your posts as you work hard on school, I check for one everyday. Looks like your hair is straight again. Isn't that a lot of work? Thanks for sharing about life and friends. You've obviously made some of those life long friends in the last two years.

Joy, as your "mum," I'm proud of how you are "adding" to the lives of others. We miss you, but rejoice that you and Philip are a blessing to those around you.
P.S. I also noticed the hair style. Did you have a "makeover" day at work?
