Gratefulness.

While Thanksgiving Day already feels ages ago, I wanted to blog about the time that we got to spend with "military family". And I think we can talk about Thanksgiving any time because it's not a 24 hour deal. It's an attidunal perspective on daily life. I had looked forward to The Day it for a long time as I knew we would be with some small groups friends in a context that feels like the closest thing to spending time with family in our world right now. Several families from one of our small groups got together at a house in the neighborhood for a night of general merriment and thanksgiving.

One thing that is great about the military is that you get a lot of exposure to "regional" cuisine. For instance, one person made sure that the midwesterners felt at home and made a pistachio salad (pistachio pudding, pineapple, marshmellows. . . it was interesting trying to explain pistachio pudding to our British hostess:). There seems to ALWAYS be someone representing the South who bring maccaroni and cheese (homemade) to just about every event we go to. I baked my grandma Janet's oatmeal molasses bread and it was a HIT. I also made an attempt at a pumpkin roll, however when the cake didn't exactly roll I had to turn it into a trifle.

We are so grateful for the individuals that the Lord has very strategically placed in our lives while we are so far away from our own families. They will forever hold a special place in our hearts.Dave hacking away at our DELISH turkey.

Another Thanksgiving tradition we seem to have is MOVING. Two years ago we moved right after Thanksgiving. This year we moved right before. Next year we will move right before. I'll have pictures of the house when it is in a state to be seen by the public. It's looking like that may not happen until I get back and have a major sort through in January because I/we (hopefully we) am/are leaving to go back to the US NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!! (It's so exciting to say that!!!!)

sorry about the two posts in one night - our neighbor's internet is super dodgy, so I have to make hay when the sun shines. I will have internet at the end of January and what a sweet day that will be!!!!!!!!!

I smiled at your pistachio salad story. How about describing green jello with cottage cheese in it?
