Home for Christmas

It's been an eventful four days, but I am happy to report that Philip and I made it to Minnesota safe and sound. Right now Philip, Josh and I are sitting around the table playing Scrabble (Philip takes a LOOOONG time to lay his letters, so having something to work on keeps me from getting too visibly impatient :) [Philip hacking the blog: but he ALWAYS wins at Scrabble!] This is the story of our voyage to America 2009. . .

It started on Thursday the 17th. I was supposed to fly out of Heathrow. I checked-in and they were desperate for people to volunteer to be bumped to the next day's flight, so I decided to volunteer. I spent the night at a Hilton attached to the airport.

I got out without any problems on Friday. Philip also left Friday. Anthonelli and he left our house at 4 am for the drive to the airport as it had been really snowy. We were relieved to be on our way over the Atlantic in a timely fashion.

I landed in Minneapolis at 4:30. I wasn't feeling real great and ended up throwing up twice in the car on our drive to pick Philip up in Lacrosse, WI. Philip, his deployment gear and his weapons had been flown from London to JFK to Detroit to Lacrosse. He got to WI at about 10:30 pm. Unfortunately his weapons did not. STRESSFUL! *luckily they made them to the right place on Saturday*

We got home at about 3 am on Saturday morning. By 10:00 am we were on the road back to Minneapolis. My baby brother turned 20 on Saturday; we took him with to the cities as our "jet lag designated driver". We visited with the Robinson family (Philip's mom's family) in the afternoon and spent some time with a couple of my professors from Northwestern days and their families in the evening. Driving through Roseville I commented to Philip, "the chapter of my life that I associate with this area feels forever ago." A lot has changed since May 2006 when I donned my cap and gown and walked across the stage at Maranantha Hall. . .

Yesterday we enjoyed a nice relaxed Sunday and a visit from my best friend from junior high and high school and her huband. We hadn't seen each other since her wedding (the last time I was home) a year and a half ago but we laughed and laughed like we had never been apart. I love relationships like that. . .

I'm getting out the scrabble game right away! Always winning could be a problem when you get to our house. Can't wait to see you.
