Today I witnessed one of the cutest things . . . my husband sharing coffee with a melt-your-heart toddler. Here's the story: after church our friend Jana introduced us to someone she graduated from the AF Academy with. He is an orthopedic surgeon, and he and his family just arrived at Lakenheath. They have 4 PRECIOUS little girls. It's standard practice to go to the community center on base after chapel and have some fellowship time with a bunch of our friends and their families. At the community center there is a coffee shop and a play area for kids.
I chatted with Loriann (who reminds me of an incredible professor, Brenda Cimbura, who I had in college) as we were watching the girls play and the boys were getting coffee. Philip comes back and their two-year-old Kate comes up to him with wide eyes and asks for a sip of his frappuccino. He agreed. She took a sip, got a few steps away and came back for more. This continued for a LONG time. Then her 3 year old sister caught on. It was so funny. I joked when it was time to go home that they should call Philip when they can't get the girls down for their Sunday afternoon nap. I'm very excited to get to know them!
We had Philip's squadron picnic on Friday. It was fun but VERY cold and rainy (I was wearing 3 shirts, my wool coat and my scarf - there is so much wrong with that in the beginning of August). We enjoyed a good game of bocci ball (I hadn't played in a long time but owned all of the boys. . . it was WONDERFUL). Yesterday I had a board meeting for PWOC (protestant women of the chapel - it's a women's ministry on every military base) all day, and Philip met up with a friend from college (who is doing some work in Germany) in London.
