Last Thursday night we hosted another "Lift" event at the chapel. Perparing for it had been exhausting as it had meant more than one night of going straight from work to rehearsal and not stepping foot through my door until 10:30 pm, but it was very very worth it.
The group was the brainchild of our wing commander's wife, Stacey (Philip cringes every time I refer to her by her first name but I fear what the woman would do to me if I attempted to call her "Mrs. Manske" or "ma'am" like I usually would a very important colonel's wife. . .) She is an INCREDIBLY gifted worship leader AND she's an ALTO. I love singing with her because she adjusts the key of all of the music to suit her range (which happens to me my range). Everyone complains about how low it is, meanwhile I stand there beaming with joy that I can actually sing melody every once in awhile!
The theme last week was "cover songs - songs that make you go hmmmm. . . ." we did a REALLY cool, very rockin secular set. Stacey talked about how the lyrics of each of these selected songs really attest to the fact that God can speak through people when they don't even realize it. She wove scripture into the themes of the various songs. It was all just madly awesome.
The set list:
Bring Me to Life Evanessence
Calling All Angels Train
Don't Stop Fleetwood Mac
These are the Days 10,000 Maniacs (and Stacey sounds JUST LIKE Natalie Merchant so it was pretty cool. . .)
We Can Work It Out Lennon/McCartney
Bent Matchbox 20
Don't stop believing Journey
Higher Creed
In Your Eyes Nordeman (though nichole nordeman is a Christian artist, turns out this is actually originally a secular song)
Sweet Surrender Sarah McLachlan
Temporary Home Carrie Underwood
Hold My Hand Hootie & the Blowfish
You know things are bad when the worship team starts drinking in the sanctuary. . .
(don't worry mom, it's diet root beer. . . though by the end of one of the late practices Stacey and Kori were thinking that Pimms or something that would be clear would work in a waterbottle quite nicely)
LOVE these girls
I'm super sad that I won't get to be with the crew when they sing in Germany (visit to Ramstein :) on 14 Aug : (

Sounds like a great way to use all the music to bring Glory to God,glad you had fun. BTW At this moment I'm waiting for your family to visit me at work this afternoon and for David to finish school to take them up on the mountain.
....and we are just back to the Lere ranch in the mountains, after the aforementioned fun on a beautiful, Colorado day. I like the picture of you in the sanctuary, with the flag off to the side. Looks like quite a collection of music. This was one of your many opportunities to minister to others while in England. God has lots of ways to use us, if we choose to be available.
