day 12

 a photo of me.

I'm probably 3 or 4 in this picture.  To be honest, I haven't changed much. . . just gotten taller.   The fact that I am very similar at 25 to when I was 5 was evidenced on Thanksgiving morning.  My mom was hosting 28 people at our house from the Pearson side of the family to celebrate the holiday.  Philip, Josh and I did our best to put ourselves to use in the kitchen.  Turns out, my biggest contribution wasn't peeling potatoes. . . it was providing entertainment in order to spur the kitchen help on in their tasks.

I opened my closet door and came across this dress that we had gotten from WHO KNOWS WHERE and kept around as a "costume" possibility (you never knew when you'd need something for a school musical, community theater or a church play).  I am so glad we did because I think it makes an OUTSTANDING pilgrim dress!  I put it on (it was a wee bit tight. . . size 12 in whatever year this sucker was made is NOT what it is today. . .) and went out attention seeking.  I had far too much fun eliciting my husband, brother, mother and father's reactions from my clothing choice.  I insisted with a straight face that I wasn't planning on changing just because people were coming.  Before we knew it, I was dancing and prancing around for the videocamera in the exact same manner I would have done twenty Thanksgivings before. . . it. was. freaking. HILARIOUS.

I managed to get my brother pretty wound up too. He was rapping, "peel potatoes, peel peel potatoes. CUT OUT THEIR EYES!" as he helped make preparations for mashed potatoes.  Philip on the otherhand wasn't so sure about joining in the fun.  Okay, he was really sure - sure he DIDN'T want to join the theatrics (hysterics???)

Yes, little "red, white and blue pilgrim girl".....You certainly did get some reactions from the family who raised you, and the husband who now lives with you. Too bad your parents are still in the analog video age. A YouTube video of your prancing would have been much more descriptive of your antics, for those who did not have the honor of seeing you in person. "Peel, peel, potatoes" could have been the next Dordt College talent show entry for your bro. This Thanksgiving cook appreciated the help in the kitchen afterwards from those "manly men."
